What the journey holds
- Choose your people, your calling, and the history that shaped you — and say, in your own words, why each one fits.
- Fill a character sheet that asks about your strengths, what you'd carry out of a burning house, and what you have been told is a flaw.
- Give a name to the thing standing in your way, so it stands outside you where it can be looked at.
- Recall the times you already were the hero you mean to become. There is a die to roll if nothing comes.
- Say what the songs will call you, when it's told.

Everything you write stays on your device. No accounts, no sign-ups, no tracking, no advertising. Nothing you write is stored on our servers or anyone else's. You can erase all of it whenever you like, and we hold no copy.
What this is, and is not
Heroic Horizons is a reflective writing exercise — not therapy, not treatment, and not an assessment of any kind. It borrows a practice from narrative therapy: naming a difficulty, setting it outside yourself, and hunting for the times it did not win. It holds to the old idea that the story you were handed is not the only one you can tell — and then it dresses that practice in fantasy and firelight.
If something you write here raises more than you expected, talking with someone you trust — or a qualified professional — is a reasonable next move.

The one who lit the fire
My name is Dustin Cawood, and I am a licensed mental health therapist in Kentucky. During my career, I've sat with many people — adolescents and adults alike — as they work to make sense of their own stories, and I've come to believe there's nothing steadier than watching someone begin to re-author the tale they carry about who they are.
I've loved the worlds of fantasy for as long as I can remember: the novels, the video games, and the time a friend first invited me to the table and introduced me to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, whose collaborative storytelling and detailed character building I fell in love with. Those games gave me more than a hobby. They gave me a place where imagination was permission — to try on courage, to fail without cost, and to become someone a little braver than I felt.
Along the way I kept noticing the same thing: people freeze when you ask them to describe themselves, and light up the moment you ask them to build a character. Heroic Horizons is the lovechild of two of my great passions — the human story and the fantasy epic — built on exactly that idea. In the end, I made it for anyone who has ever felt smaller than their own story: the people who meet themselves most easily through story and play. Pull up a log by the fire — the Wanderer has been waiting for you.
